A toppled tree left nearly 80 homes on the South End without power for at least four hours Monday.
At about 4:30 p.m., a large poplar fell on overhead lines along Coles Road, knocking out power to 78 customers, a Puget Sound Energy spokesman said.
The outage stretched all the way to Freeland, where the power flickered off for just a few seconds, he said, but the bulk of customers were without power until about 9 p.m.
The event also caused a portion of Coles Road to be closed for several hours as utility crews worked to remove the offending tree.
