A water main project in Freeland will result in service disruptions over a three-day period next week.
Andy Campbell, Freeland Water and Sewer District manager, confirmed about 550 feet of old water main will be replaced on Freeland Avenue, Joanne Drive, Myrtle Avenue and Beauregard Drive. The work will take place Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and will result in water being shut off for up to eight hours per day.
The project was planned for this past week, but snow and freezing temperatures resulted in the contractor rescheduling for this week, Campbell said.
Replacing the water line has been planned for more than a decade. The existing galvanized line is “rotting away” and needs replacement, he said. The new line will be made of PVC and ductile iron.
“It’s a capital improvement project that has been on the books for about 12 years,” Campbell said.
He estimated the total cost of the project at about $100,000.
Island Athletic Club alerted customers this week and last week of the pending service disruptions. The club is expecting to lose water on Tuesday, Dec. 9, and while it will make a “reasonable effort to remain open,” services will be limited.
