Running the Island County Fairgrounds will be the only topic of discussion for the Port of South Whidbey commissioners and a member of the Island County Board of Commissioners next week.
The port is hosting a county commissioner for a special meeting at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 13, to discuss property management options. Last month, Island County Commissioner Jill Johnson asked if the port was interested in running the nearly 13-acre property.
As an agency designed to promote economic growth, the port could take over the property with the idea of turning it into a revenue-generating and visitor-drawing attraction.
The meeting will be at the port office, 1804 Scott Road, Freeland, in the same building as China City.
