Greenbank Farm recently hired island resident Virginia Bloom as the new director of operations.

She replaces outgoing director Cheryl Sagmeister.

Bloom, having resided on Whidbey Island for most of her adult life and having raised her two children here, said she is protective of her home and that feeling extends to caring for the farm.

“My main purpose is to see that operations run smoothly and within budget,” Bloom said.

Another goal, she said is to raise awareness for the farm in the community.

“I have always enjoyed Greenbank Farm from when it was the Loganberry Farm to what it has become today,” Bloom said.

Having been involved in a lot of the activities over the years at the farm, both as a spectator and a participant, she said she still is surprised at the number of events and programs available at the farm.

“Although I felt I knew the farm well, I am totally amazed at what I did not know. There is so much going on here that I don’t think people are aware of, and I am growing more excited about it the more I learn. I am going to love working here,” she added.

She said it’s important to let the community know that the farm is available for educational programs of all sorts including the arts, agriculture, culinary classes, health and fitness and in the study of nature.

“I really don’t think the island community is aware of what a jewel it has in the farm.”
