An Island County Fire District 3 vehicle caused damage to a small sports car behind it when the driver backed up without seeing it, officials said.
The mishap occurred about 4 p.m. Friday, March 4 at the intersection of Myrtle Avenue and Main Street in Freeland, Fire Chief Rusty Palmer said.
The fire department’s SUV, a medical emergency response vehicle, was not damaged, and no injuries were reported, Palmer said.
“He was a little too far out in the intersection, and was backing up and didn’t see the little car in his rearview mirror,” Palmer said of the MERV driver. “Lesson learned: When it comes to cars that are smaller than a MERV, be vigilant. Our insurance is taking care of it.”
