South Whidbey Fire/EMS will conduct a live fire training exercise at a structure off Highway 525 in Freeland on Saturday, May 30.

According to a press release from the district’s public information officer, Jon Gabelein, the exercise is expected to last from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. The site is located at 18488 Highway 525 in Freeland, south of Cameron Road and north of South Woodard Avenue.

The structure there will be set on fire so South Whidbey firefighters can practice fire extinguishing techniques in a live condition.

All the necessary permits and approval was received, according to the release.

Residents may see smoke and fire during the training exercise. Roadside reader boards will inform passers-by about the activity, and people are allowed to observe the training but may not enter the property or obstruct traffic.

“South Whidbey Fire/EMS greatly appreciates the property owner’s and public’s support of this great training opportunity,” the release stated.

Questions about the training event may be asked of Deputy Chief Mike Cotton via email at training@swfe.org or 360-321-1533.
