A fishing crew rescued a kite surfer who was in trouble late yesterday near Double Bluff.

Coast Guard officials said the crew of the Northern Eagle pulled the 42-year old surfer from the water after the Coast Guard issued an “urgent marine information broadcast” to mariners in the area.

The Coast Guard also launched an HH-65C Dolphin helicopter crew to the scene from Air Station Port Angeles.

The surfer was transferred onto the Island County fire boat and was then taken to shore where local emergency medical personnel were waiting to give treatment if necessary.

The Coast Guard said the man said the lack of wind was the cause for his distress and said he had been drifting for more than four hours.

The man was wearing a dry suit and refused medical treatment once on shore.
