The big rainstorm on the mainland and resultant flooding has wreaked havoc on South Whidbey High School sports teams.

Thursday, the wrestling team from Cedarcrest High School in Duvall had to cancel their visit to Erikson Gym, as did the Red Wolves boys basketball team on Friday.

The Falcon girls team planned to travel to Cedarcrest as well on Friday night, but that was canceled.

Classes at Cedarcrest were canceled due to flooding in the Snoqualmie Valley on Friday.

South Whidbey athletic director John Patton said none of the games — including the snow-canceled Coupeville contests from Dec. 19 — had yet been rescheduled because of the difficulty in getting referees.

Though floodwaters were receding, it has been a rough week on the mainland. The storm forced more than 75 road closures, including a stretch of I-5 south of Chehalis. Transportation Secretary Paula Hammond said the closures could result in commercial losses of up to $10 million per day.

Major interstates over the Cascades, including Snoqualmie Pass and Highway 12 at White Pass, are closed until further notice.

Assuming weather conditions improve around Puget Sound, the Falcons boys and girls basketball teams will travel to Sultan on Tuesday, Jan. 13. Falcon grapplers will be at Sultan two days later.
