Katherine Taylor, a longtime resident of Langley, will celebrate her 100th birthday on Feb. 23, 2011.
Taylor and her husband Reginald lived on the island for more than 55 years on a 40-acre farm where they raised three daughters, Luella, Della and Marian. Katherine Taylor took care of the farm milking the cows, raising chickens and pretty much doing everything that needed to be done. Reginald was a house mover and also ran a popular island machine shop.
Taylor’s granddaughter, Kandi Benson, said her grandmother was known for her great cooking and that her door was always open to anyone.
Taylor left Whidbey in 1987, after her husband passed away, but still has many friends on the island. She currently lives at RegenyCare in Monroe.
Taylor has 11 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 22 great-great-grandkids. She will always be “Grandma Kate” to her adoring family.
Benson said that Taylor has an older sister who is 102 years old and a younger 98-year-old sister, both of whom live in North Dakota.
The family will celebrate Grandma Kate’s special day from 2 to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 26. Anyone wishing to send a card can mail it to: RegencyCare, c/o Katherine Taylor, 1355 N. Main St., Monroe, WA 98272.
