Former superintendent pleads guilty to fair theft

A former Island County Fair board member has pled guilty to theft. Christall Murphy, 30, of Oak Harbor stole funds from the Island County Fair Association while she was secretary of the board and the superintendent for the fair’s Fiddle Faddle Farm in 2005.

Christall Murphy, 30, of Oak Harbor stole funds from the Island County Fair Association while she was secretary of the board and the superintendent for the fair’s Fiddle Faddle Farm in 2005.

Murphy has pled guilty to third-degree theft.

Third-degree theft covers dollar amounts under $250.

According to the Island County Prosecutor’s Office, Murphy will be ordered to pay restitution to the Island County Fair Association of $2,051 and pay court costs of $1,117. She was given 30 days in Island County Jail, which she can serve at home with an electronic monitoring device. Murphy will also be under the supervision of the state Department of Corrections for 12 months.

The Fiddle Faddle Farm is a youth activity event held each year during the Island County Fair. Murphy, a volunteer, allegedly received checks totaling more than $2,000 to purchase supplies for fair activities, but did not provide receipts for purchases.
