The Freeland Library opened its doors last month following a six-month expansion project. Patrons happily went back to their library with an appreciation for the additional space, more parking spaces and remodeled children’s area.
The expansion added a total of 1,300 square feet to the building.
Other additions are a computer station for pre-schoolers loaded with age-appropriate software and a self-service check-out station.
Though the library is open for business now, the grand opening celebration is scheduled for later this month.
To celebrate their new digs, the Friends of the Freeland Library is hosting the official re-opening celebration, dedication and silent art auction on Friday, Feb. 16.
There will be a dedication ceremony to honor those who have created this new space. A special feature will be the unveiling of a beautiful window to the Children’s Room, made of fused glass by artist Jerry Hill. His window will salute Bettie Bell, the founder of the Freeland Public Library, whose hard work brought the library from a closet space in her store to the beautiful and busy building it is today.
Then, from 5:30 to 7 p.m., refreshments will be served as patrons are serenaded by the harp music of Sno-Isle librarian Lesly Kaplan.
Guests can also bid on items created and donated by local artists. The money generated from the silent auction will fund the activities of the Friends of the Freeland Library who have contributed to the building and its landscaping.
