Langley Public Works Director Stan Berryman said further investigation is needed to figure out what has been causing flooding in Star Store Basics on Second Street.
Store owner Gene Felton told The Record in a story on Nov. 19 that infrastructure changes in the city due to the Second Street Improvement Project in 2014 has led to flooding in his store following heavy rain storms.
“I’m going to have to do some research to figure out all the facts on this one,” Berryman said.
Berryman said he’s been in contact with Felton, KPG, a Seattle-Tacoma design firm that was hired as Langley’s principal design agency on the Second Street Improvement Project, and will need to speak with Puget Sound Energy.
“They [Puget Sound Energy] are an actor in this one as well,” Berryman said.
Councilwoman Rene Neff asked if the city is liable for the damages to the store.
“We need to investigate it to figure that out,” Berryman said.
Neff also inquired whether there was a record of the city trying to assist Felton in the past. Mayor Tim Callison said there was a record, a report and what was considered to be a remedy.
“But, apparently the remedy is not working,” Callison said.
