Two quick wins during the past week have Falcon fastpitch still firmly in control of the North Cascades Conference.

But they did not come without some pain. During the first inning of an 8-2 win over Nooksack Valley at home Monday, the team lost one of its most seasoned players to a freak accident on the base paths. Stealing second base in the first inning of the game, senior Keasha Campbell caught a foot on the bag and severely twisted her ankle.

Though it was not an auspicious start to the contest, the Falcons rallied after Campbell was carried off the field, bringing home four runs in the fourth inning and three in the sixth to win the game after falling behind 2-0.

Carrying the team were Christie Robinson, who pitched for her second full game win in as many tries, and Mary Murphy, who smashed the second Falcon home run of the season and batted in three runs to power the offense.

Now 11-0 in NCC play and 14-1 overall, the Falcons are almost unbeatable. That is how they were last Thursday when they blanked Meridian 4-0 behind a Robinson no-hitter. Robinson struck out 12 batters on her way to that win, and hit the only multiple base hit of the game, a double.

Five games remain in the Falcons’ schedule, with the last at home May 10 against Lynden Christian.
