Good Cheer in Langley was burglarized Tuesday night and the food bank’s safe was stolen. Inside was $1,000 in cash and a number of gift certificates to Pay-Less and Lind’s Pharmacy.

“It’s so low to rob a food bank,” said Chief Bob Herzberg of the Langley Police Department. “This is a real shame.

“No one should be a victim, but especially the food bank that provides so much assistance to members of our community.”

The burglary apparently happened during the power outage sometime between closing on Tuesday and when Good Cheer reopened for business Wednesday morning.

Herzberg said there were no obvious signs of forced entry on the exterior doors, but the office door where the safe was kept was forced open.

People who had credit card or check transactions with Good Cheer Tuesday, should check their transaction history carefully.

The safe was made by Century, is dark gray in color and measures about 2 feet wide by 2 feet long. It has two locks; a combination and a key lock.

“Someone has a lot of money and gift certificates,” he said. We are asking the community for help.”

Herzberg said police want to be notified if anyone finds the safe. Anyone with information should call Langley Police at 221-4433.
