Incumbent Republican Phil Bakke is now just 22 votes in front of no-party candidate Curt Gordon for the second spot on the November ballot in the District 1 Island County commissioner’s race.
Island County election officials released an updated vote count late Friday.
Bakke has 2,229 votes, while Gordon has 2,207.
Democrat Helen Price Johnson is still the front runner in the race, and the top two candidates will square off in November.
Bakke’s advantage in the number-two spot has dwindled from an 80-vote advantage on Tuesday, then to 31 votes on Wednesday, and 25 votes on Thursday.
Election officials said there are just 1,000 or so ballots left to count countywide.
Reece Rose, a Republican, remains in last place in the four-way race with 1,561 votes.
