High winds felled trees, scattered branches and caused localized power outages in several parts of South Whidbey throughout the early morning today, but no injuries were reported, officials say.

Gusts to 65 miles per hour were recorded at Naval Air Station Whidbey Island in Oak Harbor about 6 a.m., the highest recorded in the Puget Sound area, said Johnny Burg of the National Weather Service in Seattle.

Island County Fire District 3 crews responded to 20 calls beginning at about 2 a.m., all but one related to the weather, said Mike Cotton, assistant chief.

There were several reports of trees on power lines and branches scattered on roadways, Cotton said.

Intermittent power disruption was reported in areas of Clinton, Glendale, Langley and Scatchet Head.

Crews worked to remove a large tree that blocked Holst Road at Glendale Road about 6 a.m., Cotton said. Downed power lines were reported at Wilkinson Road and Commercial Street in Clinton, and along Deer Lake Road.

PSE spokeswoman Dorothy Bracken said no widespread outages were reported on Whidbey Island. Worst hit by the windstorm were areas of Thurston and Kitsap counties, she said.

The high winds started to subside about 10 a.m.
