Highest turnout numbers so far in Island County are on Central Whidbey; half of county has already voted

Central area voters are also turning out for the vote in greater numbers than other areas across Whidbey and Camano islands.

The review also shows more women than men have already voted. A total of 14,394 women have returned their ballots; that’s 57 percent of 25,244 active women voters. A total of 12,634 men have already voted and returned their ballots, or 56 percent of the 22,348 active male voters.

Most voters over the age of 50 have also voted already. The highest percentage of voters who have already voted — 76 percent — are between the ages of 70 to 80.

Only a third of voters under the age of 30 have voted, according to ballot-validation information obtained from Island County.

On a precinct-by-precinct review, the precincts of Greenbank (65 percent), Polnell (67 percent) and Langley 2 (66 percent) have the highest turnout heading into the last weekend before Election Day.

The lowest turnout so far is in Ault Precinct (42 percent) and Oak Harbor 9 (43 percent).

By voting area, the nine precincts in the Central area have the best turnout so far; 63 percent.

In the South Whidbey area, which encompasses 15 precincts, a total of 6,878 people have voted through Friday, or 58 percent of active voters on average. Seven precincts have a turnout above 60 percent, however.

Camano Island, which has 10 precincts, has a current average turnout of 55 percent. North Whidbey’s nine precincts have an average turnout rate of 53 percent. Oak Harbor has an average turnout rate of 54 percent across its 22 precincts.

Less than half of voters who have registered in 2008 have voted. A total of 6,608 people registered to vote this year, and of those voters, 3,215 have returned their ballots by Friday evening.
