It’ll be all haggis and piping hot bands at the fifth annual Whidbey Island Scottish Highland Games and Clan Gathering at the Greenbank Farm Saturday.
Highland Games have been enjoyed for hundreds of years. Head to Greenbank to see what the excitement is about with heavy athletics, dancing, piping, massed bands, children’s games and a beer garden.
Researching your lineage, watch sword fights, dancing and drumming. Try haggis, the traditional Scottish food.
A full lineup of entertainment to include Rattle the Bag, Red McWilliams, and the Jamie Laval trio. On the dance stage, Irish dancers from Skagit Valley return as colorful crowd pleasers. Join the Scottish Country Dancers for a jig or two.
Fiddlers young and old will brandish their bows in attempt to win the competition. Last year Katie Campbell of Freeland, U.S. junior fiddling champ, triumphed.
Manly men in kilts will put their brawn to the test in the Scottish athletic field events. The tests of will and skill will include putting the stone, 28 and 56 pound weight for distance, 56 pound weight for height, the Scottish hammer, and the Caber toss.
For the wee lads and lassies there will be a kilted fun run, (stuffed) sheep toss and caber toss.
If you have Scottish bloodlines or just can’t get enough of everything tartan clad, this is your day.
