Homola’s lead shrinks again in Island County commissioner race

Democrat Angie Homola's lead has shrunk to 58 votes in the District 2 race for Island County commissioner, according to the latest vote count released by the Island County elections office.

Democrat Angie Homola’s lead has shrunk to 58 votes in the District 2 race for Island County commissioner, according to the latest vote count released by the Island County elections office.

Homola is on the cusp of an upset victory over 16-year incumbent Republican Mac McDowell.

The latest tally was announced Wednesday afternoon. Approximately 200 votes are left to count.

The next update is expected on Friday afternoon.

The race has tightened each time additional ballots have been counted since Election Day. Homola initially led by 849 votes, then by 630 votes. By Thursday, Nov. 6, her advantage had dropped to 383 votes, then to 76 votes.

Earlier this week, Homola led by 62 votes.
