The Scatchet Head house that had a great fall last October has been put back together again.
The house was the victim of a runaway dump truck that slammed into it making it unlivable for owners Bill and Lael Mary Sanders. Following four months of rebuilding, the couple is moving back in this week.
“We are thrilled to be going home again. It’s almost like a new house. Carpets were replaced, wood floors refinished, walls and ceilings in some areas rebuilt and the deck required some repair,” Lael Sanders said.
The bedroom and garage wing were totaled when the truck driven by 36-year-old Geri Scrivens careened down a steep hill and hit the home.
“The truck was actually holding up the house for a few days. They couldn’t move it until the damaged area of the house had been moved,” Sanders said.
Since the accident the Sanderses have been living nearby in a rented cottage.
“We are grateful nobody was hurt in the accident. A neighbor could have been walking by at the time, or we could have been in the house instead of down the street watching it happen,” she said.
The Sanderses watched in amazement as the huge truck loaded with dirt careened down the steep hill into their house, splitting the two story home in two but sparing the driver any serious injury.
According to the Island County Sheriff’s department the case against Scrivens has been referred to the Island County Prosecutor’s office.
