The Whidbey Camano Land Trust will hold a public meeting and workshop on Thursday, May 12 in Freeland to talk about the future of the Trillium Community Forest.

Land trust officials said they need input and feedback to help develop a comprehensive management plan that will guide future use and activities in the forest.

The meeting will be held at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island meeting hall. Sign-in begins at 5:45 p.m., followed by a brief overview and update on the forest.

Trust officials said the majority of the evening will be dedicated to public comment.

Last year, the land trust raised more than $4 million in private donations to purchase the forest property, including $500,000 from the trust and a $300,000 loan from the Bullitt Foundation. The funds were donated to protect nature and provide appropriate opportunities for non-motorized recreational uses.

A second public workshop will be held when the draft management plan is completed.
