Capping a five-year effort, the Island County commissioners yesterday approved the county’s reworked shoreline master program.
The document governs development and permitted activities along the county’s 207 linear miles of seashore and lakefront.
The program was approved Nov. 3, but approval was withdrawn Dec. 1 because one small new section had not received public comment, as required by law. That section clarifies choices of shoreline stabilization methods.
At the public hearing yesterday held to remedy that omission, no one came forward to speak.
The document is set to take effect around Jan. 18, 2016, depending on when the Department of Ecology issues its final approval.
