County commissioners are considering the disposal of dated laptops used by Island County Sheriff’s Office deputies and detectives.
Due to new technology requirements this year, new laptops have been purchased for the department.
A resolution directing staff to auction off the 35 computers through a third party was discussed at a Wednesday work session. Commissioners will vote on the measure at a future regular meeting.
Staff consulted with the county’s other departments to see if other county employees could use them, but none were found.
Since the computers were purchased with grant funds, the sheriff is requesting the money resulting from the auctions stay within the department for future equipment purchases.
