Next year’s budget will be one of two topics discussed by Island Transit directors at a special meeting on Central Whidbey this week.

The meeting is set for 9:30 a.m. Friday, Oct. 10, at the transit agency’s headquarters, 19758 Highway 20, just south of Coupeville. Agenda items include discussion of the 2015 budget, and an update on the board’s search for a temporary executive director. Longtime transit chief Martha Rose recently resigned in the wake of financial mismanagement that resulted in significant route cuts and the layoff of about 20 percent of the organization’s workforce.
