Freeland lad loses leg in farm mishap

“A courageous 10-year-old Freeland boy, Timothy Pratt, lost his right leg midway between the ankle and knee in a farm accident Friday afternoon.

“Timmie, son of Lt. and Mrs. Byron Pratt, had his leg torn off when he slipped and it fell into the gears of a power takeoff on his father’s tractor. The boy had been riding the tractor while his father mowed hay in a field behind their home on Bush Point Road.”

Clyde to present Elvis in Mexico

“An Elvis Presley musical, ‘Fun in Acapulco” is to be presented Saturday night at the Clyde Theater in Langley.”

Vandals destroy car at Freeland

“Vandals destroyed every bit of glass and ruined a car belonging to Don Cameron at Freeland sometime during the night.”

To ferry officials

“One of these days, so help us, a ferry is going to pull into Mukilteo loaded with cars and then leave empty, with four of five cars waiting to go aboard. In one of those cars will be an irate father and a bunch of cranky, tired kids. And when our ticket taker says the ferry is going back empty to tie up at Columbia Beach, that father will go berserk. … We know this will happen because it almost happened Sunday night. Sending a ferry back empty from Mukilteo to Columbia Beach is plain, out and out ridiculous and we don’t like it. Or maybe you’ve got the idea already.”
