Erin Borden will be the only candidate on the ballot in next week’s election for the board of supervisors of the Whidbey Island Conservation District.

The election is 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 16 at the Whidbey Island Conservation District conference room, at 404 NE Center St. in Coupeville.

Borden is seeking re-election, and no other candidates filed to run.

Borden runs a farm on Whidbey and has bachelor’s and master’s degrees in biology and a doctorate’s in entomology from Washington State University. She taught for 12 years at two- and four-year colleges and spent three years at U.C. Davis in California doing research in integrated pest management.

The WICD Board of Supervisors consists of five members including two appointed by the Washington State Conservation Commission and three elected positions, each serving a three-year term without compensation.

Conservation district supervisors identify conservation needs, set district budgets and priorities, and oversee plans to protect soil, water, wildlife and other natural resources. The board of supervisors meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at the district office in Coupeville.
