The nimble-fingered customers at Knitty Pearls will start shopping at a different South End location at the close of the month.

Knitty Pearls in Freeland is packing up shop and rolling out its yarn again in Langley starting on Aug. 25.

“I’ll miss Freeland, but I think that Langley’s calling me,” said Knitty Pearls owner Kristine West.

West’s shop has been operating successfully in Freeland for the past year and a half, but the invite from fellow business owners in Langley got West’s wheels turning.

“All of the business owners have been tugging at me to go there, and a lot of my customers are from Langley,” West said.

The new Knitty Pearls location is close to other Langley businesses, and West is friends with many of the managers.

“I’ll get to be with my sister business owners,” West said. “Those are my girls.”

West will also be picking up a business partner in the move. Cindi Hoffman is going to be her partner at the new store.

The owners are excited to bring Knitty Pearl’s current customers to the new shop, and are hopeful about attracting some new ones.

“My intention is to get every one in Langley knitting,” West said.

She said she’s met many new people during her time at the Freeland shop.

“We have a wonderful group of girls who come in and knit,” West said.

Pam Muncey has been teaching classes at the shop, instructing her students how to make just about anything that can be knit. She will continue to offer classes at the new Knitty Pearls location.

One of Muncey’s most popular knitting classes has been about how to make handmade socks.

“What better gift than handmade socks?” West asked. “Wouldn’t it be nice to receive a pair of handmade socks a friend has knitted for you?”

West learned many of her knitting skills from Muncey.

“She is so laid back and easygoing. You don’t feel like a dummy when you learn with her,” West said.

The Knitty Pearls shop has a variety of natural and man-made fabrics available in a wide array of colors, patterns and textures.

West said earth tones and natural materials are popular right now.

“It’s all going now to the natural,” she explained. “Before we had a lot of novelty yarns, which I call the ‘bling’ yarn. Everything goes through a cycle.”

Right now, everything at the Freeland store location is 30 to 50 percent off.

Knitters who can’t make it to the big sale don’t need to get unraveled. Most Knitty Pearls items will be moved to the new location.

And, the store owner said, the opening of the new store will also mark the sale of new items.

“We are going to be getting a lot of new yarns in,” she said. “We’ve ordered brown sheep. That’s been my biggest request.”

Knitting-related items available at the store include yarn, needles, books, felting, hand-woven and hand-spun items and more.
