Langley council will look at empty seats

Langley officials are expected to talk about city council appointments and assignments, including a few for newly vacated positions, at the next council meeting.

Councilwoman Rene Neff recently resigned from the board of the Island County Economic Development Council. She told her fellow council members this week at their meeting Monday the appointment had run its course.

“I was ready to move on,” Neff said.

Neff also said she wasn’t certain that her service on the Langley Cemetery Board will also continue, but said she was interested in a seat on the Mayor’s Council on Economic Health.

Seven other council appointments have not yet been made for 2011, according to the city.

Appointed or assigned positions that need to be filled are council liaison to the Parks & Open Space Commission; council liaison to the Planning Advisory Board; Mayor’s Council on Economic Health (last filled by former Councilman Russell Sparkman); Mayor’s Finance Committee; Utility Committee (last filled by former Councilman Jim Recupero); Island County Tourism Committee; Island County EDC; and Sustainable Whidbey Coalition.
