LANGLEY — Newly seated Langley City Councilman Hal Seligson has promised to donate his pay as a city councilman back to the city.

Seligson made the vow at Monday night’s council meeting, his first since being sworn into office on Dec. 20.

Council members are paid $50 a month, and Seligson said he hoped his donation could be seed money that would pay for efforts to create more transparency in city government.

Seligson said he wanted his stipend, however small, to be used for work that would lead to greater open government in Langley, such as streaming video, archiving or related things.

“It’s not a heck of a lot of money but I think it would go perhaps as seed money toward that,” he said.

Seligson was appointed to the council last month to fill the vacancy created by the resignation of Russell Sparkman.
