A 20-year-old Langley man has been charged with breaking the window of a Langley Police car with his head after being taken into custody for assaulting a man.

Jonathan Baker pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Aug. 23 to charges of second-degree malicious mischief and fourth-degree assault.

According to a Langley Police Department report, Baker assaulted a friend during a complicated melee in front of his mother’s Langley home on Aug. 4.

According to the report, Baker invited a 16-year-old girl and her boyfriend to the house, but when they arrived Baker and another man assaulted the girl’s boyfriend. The report states the man beat the boyfriend with a baseball bat and Baker hit him. According to court papers, Baker didn’t seem to have a motive in the beating, but Baker’s friend apparently was jealous over the girlfriend.

In addition, the police report said, Baker’s mother and the girl assaulted each other.

Langley Police officer Laura Price took Baker into custody Aug. 7. She handcuffed him and put him in the back of her patrol car. According to Price’s report, while she was talking to a witness, Baker started beating his head against the car window and broke it.

Baker is free on $1,500 bond. Conviction on each charge carries a maximum penalty of 90 days in jail.
