Langley’s showing some robust returns despite today’s world economic woes, the city council learned at its meeting Monday.
While the hotel-motel tax is down slightly from last year, the city’s sales-tax revenue is up, said Clerk-Treasurer Debbie Mahler.
“It shows people are visiting, but they’re not staying overnight,” Mahler said.
Councilman Robert Gilman said he’s been tracking the city’s sales-tax revenue, and that if the trend continues for the remainder of the year, it will set a record.
He said the city budgeted for $303,000 in sales taxes for 2009, and the take could be as much as $341,000 this year.
“It’s an amazing blessing that we’re where we are now,” Mahler said.
Mahler also reported that the official census figures are in, and that the city now has a population of 1,100.
