An ordinance changing the way the city collects land-use fees will get a second reading at next week’s Langley City Council meeting.

The meeting will be 6:30 p.m. Monday, Nov. 2, at city hall on Second Street. A public council workshop will take place at 4 p.m.

The city currently collects a base fee for all land-use actions, such as annexations or short plats, and then bills the applicant monthly for city staff time spent on each project. In the new ordinance, the city has determined an average for each category, and would collect that amount up front, said Debbie Mahler, city clerk-treasurer.

“In some cases the fee might be higher, in some cases lower,” Mahler said. “But it will be a whole lot more clear, and easier for everybody.”

The council will also consider second readings of two other ordinances, one concerning general penalties for failing to comply with city ordinances, and one revising the city’s bail schedule.

“We’ve started to do an annual review,” Mahler said. “Some of these things haven’t changed since the 1980s.”
