A discussion on how Langley can revitalize its downtown using the Main Street concept is scheduled for next week.

The program “Main Street Approach” will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 12 at Langley United Methodist Church at Third Street and Anthes Avenue.

The featured speaker will be Sarah Hansen, Main Street program coordinator with the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation. Langley business and property owners and interested community members are encouraged to attend.

Main Street is a philosophy and a comprehensive self-help approach to downtown commercial district revitalization, organizers say. It has been used by 1,600 cities and towns in 40 states with the help of the National Main Street Center and statewide downtown revitalization programs.

Success requires the cooperation of property owners, bankers, citizens, public officials, chambers of commerce and other local groups to generate local leadership and common goals, organizers say.
