Last chance to address ferry fare changes

The Washington State Transportation Commission is holding its final hearing to adopt the changes.

Ferry riders have one last chance to weigh in on proposed fare changes.

The Washington State Transportation Commission is holding its final hearing to adopt the changes at 9 a.m. this Thursday, Aug. 10 in Seattle. To attend virtually, register in advance and view the meeting agenda at wstc.wa.gov/agendas/2023/07/19/meeting-agenda-august-10-2023.

The state legislature is requiring that $419 million in revenue be generated from ferry fares, during a two-year period from 2023 to 2025. In order to meet this requirement, fares must increase by a proposed 4%.

At a meeting on June 21, the committee advanced a plan that involves a 4.25% fare increase for passengers and vehicles on Oct. 1, 2023, and Oct. 1, 2024. This option increases the multi-ride discount by 1%, effective Oct. 1, 2023, and expiring Sept. 30, 2025.

Comments can be made by the public at the upcoming meeting online and in person.
