League announces two upcoming voters forums on South Whidbey

The League of Women Voters of South Whidbey Island will hold two election forums in October.

The League of Women Voters of South Whidbey Island will hold two election forums on the South End in October.

A forum for candidates running for Congress, county and state offices will be held Wednesday, Oct. 8 in the commons at South Whidbey High School. The forum starts at 6:30 p.m.

The forum will include candidates running for the District 2 seat in the U.S. House of Representatives, positions in the 10th Legislative District in the state House and Senate, for District 1 and 2 on the Island County Board of Commissioners, and Island County auditor.

Barbara Seitle, president of the League of Women Voters of Washington, will be the moderator. Questions for the candidates can be e-mailed to bseitle@whidbey.com.

The League of Women Voters of South Whidbey Island will also present an issues forum on Wednesday, Oct. 15 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Freeland. The issue forum starts at 7 p.m. and will cover state and local ballot measures.

Ballot measures to be discussed include Initiative 985, the “Transportation Measure”; I-1000, “Death With Dignity”; and I-1020, “Care Worker Certification.” Local proposals include the South Whidbey Parks & Recreation District’s new community recreation center, the Port of South Whidbey’s proposal to expand the Langley Marina, and the creation of a Whidbey Island public utilities district.

The issues forum will also be moderated by Seitle, and questions are welcome.

Questions can also be submitted by attendees at both forums.
