The South Whidbey Edible Book Festival took a bite out of the cost of an outdoor basketball court.

The festival, held for the second year in a row, raised $800 for the South Whidbey Parks and Aquatics Foundation to put toward the Rotary Club of South Whidbey’s basketball court.

The festival showed off the work of 41 entries to about 150 attendees.

Marnie Zimmerman won Best In Show for her work “Life of Pi.” Bob Bowling won Most ‘Pun’derful for “To Kill a Mockingbird.” Leslie Avila won Best Visual Presentation for “One Flew Over The Cuckoo’s Nest.” Leah Aoyagi won Most Appetizing for “Strawberry Girl.” Lexie Smith won Teen Entry for “Diary of a Wimpy Kid.” Bradley Ogden won Kids Entry for “Eensy Weensy Spider,” and Damar Lomis earned second place Kids Entry for “The Princess and the Pea.”

Organizer Jill Yomnick said more categories will be included next year for kids and a new savory category.

Yomnick thanked sponsors of the event Book Lovers Book Exchange, Casey’s Crafts, Linds, Moonraker Books, Mukilteo Coffee, Neil’s Clover Patch, Prima Bistro, The Roaming Radish, Useless Bay Coffee Company, Village Pizzeria and Wander on Whidbey.

The sponsors provided prizes and gift certificates for participants.
