“Volleyball teams continue to win>While it was business as usual for the Langley Middle School seventh-grade volleyball team – two more matches, two more easy wins – the eighth-graders battled back after being swept by Eisenhower 15-6, 15-3, 15-11 Monday to take a wild 15-12 13-15, 15-13 win over North Lake Wednesday.The seventh-graders kept their record perfect by blitzing Eisenhower 15-6, 15-9, 9-15 and North Lake 15-6, 15-8, 15-6 to improve to 9-0 for the year. Against Eisenhower, the Cougars connected on 19-of-21 serves in game one, including a 6-for-6 effort by Tiffany Feist and 5-for-5 performances by Amy Brown and Carolann Lubach. Jamie Wegner sparkled in game two, converting on 12-of-13 attempts while Natalie Alexander went 6-for-6 in game three.In the North Lake match, Lubach did even better, collecting seven service winners in a row to start game one. Brown then took over and jumped the score from 8-2 to 13-2. Brown finished the match 12-for-12 while Lubach wound up 8-for-8.The eighth-graders, meanwhile, moved to 7-2 on the season with their split. Against North Lake, the two teams battled every step of the way, before the Brianna Hussey and Nici Eaton served the final two points in game three to secure the win.Basketball results varyIn basketball, the seventh-graders split a pair of games to fall to 3-6 while the eight-graders dropped a pair of close encounters to drop to 4-5.The seventh-graders used a 17-4 first quarter start to down Eisenhower 38-29 but then watched a 16-point lead vanish in the last seven minutes in a 40-37 loss to North Lake. Mark Iddins’ seven points led a balanced Cougar attack against Eisenhower with Drew Aernie, Dane Guetlin and Daniel Eining each scoring adding six points.Against North Lake, Eining and Tanner McInerney both wound up in double figures, with 14 and 13 points, respectively.As for the eighth-graders, they nearly overcame a nine-point deficit in the last two minutes before losing to Eisenhower 39-37. They also fell to North Lake 34-31 on a three-point shot at the buzzer.Against Ike, Travis Tornga led the way with 18 points, including four three-point baskets. Nick Plastino topped all rebounders with 10 while Kilian Moote had eight.”
