Rev. Beverly Graham is the Unity speaker
Rev. Beverly Graham will speak on “The Music of Life” this Sunday at the Unity of Whidbey service.
There are so many distractions in daily life. So many decisions call for our attention that often give rise to unwelcome emotions. Music, on the other hand, can promote feelings that allow us to return to a calm, peaceful and more relaxed emotional place.
The service is 10 a.m. Sunday at Bayview Community Hall.
Emotional freedom is the topic at SWCC
“Obtaining Emotional Freedom” is Pastor Darrell Wenzek’s sermon topic Sunday morning at South Whidbey Community Church. He will explain how James 4:7-10 teaches us what to do about feeling guilty.
Dr. Tom Johnson will be back again Sunday for a special adult forum class on how to lead a Bible study from the book of 1st. Thessalonians. The class begins at 8:30 a.m. The church’s regularly scheduled adult forums will resume a week from Sunday at their normal time. Morning worship follows at 10 a.m.
SWCC gathers for worship each Sunday at the Deer Lagoon Grange, 5142 Bayview Road, Langley.
Special guest speaker addresses peacemaking
Elias Abu Ghaninia, vice principal of the Mar Elias Educational Institutions in Ibillin, Galilee, Palestine/Israel will speak at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 2 in Fellowship Hall at Langley United Methodist Church.
The Mar Elias Educational Institutions of Ibillin were founded by Archbishop Elias Chacour of the Melkite Catholic Church, a respected Leader of the Palestinian Christians in Palestine/Israel.
The Mar Elias Educational Institutions bring together Christian, Muslim, Jewish and Druze students and faculty to provide an education that will lead to a positive future. More than 3,000 students from a 50-mile radius around the village of Ibillin are receiving an education that advances hope and consequently the possibility of peace.
Rev. Ketcham speaks on forgiveness at UUCWI
Rev. Kit Ketcham will discuss possible responses to the bitterness and disappointment that come to all of us at the Sunday service for the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Whidbey Island.
How do we let go and move into forgiveness? Ketcham will consider the wisdom of Judaism, whose tradition designates this season as a time for repentance, atonement and seeking forgiveness.
Values-based children’s religious exploration classes and childcare will be provided. UUCWI gathers at 10 a.m. Sunday at 20103 Highway 525.
Service to consider the teachings of Jesus
Mary Baker Eddy, author of “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures” in 1875, developed Christian Science as a result of studying and exploring how Jesus’ teachings could be practical in a contemporary society. She wrote: “I have demonstrated through Mind the effects of Truth on the health, longevity, and morals of men … the Bible has been my only authority.”
With readings from the Bible and “Science and Health,” this Sunday the Christian Science Society will explore how the reality of Jesus’ teachings can bring health and peace today just as it did 2,000 years ago.

UUCWI, Quakers and Unity present film
There will be a showing of the documentary film “The Power of Forgiveness,” with an opportunity to discuss the topic in small groups, at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29 at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation church in Freeland.
The film reveals the depth of spiritual meaning when human beings are able to find the compassion to forgive those who have hurt them. This event is co-sponsored by UUCWI, the Whidbey Quakers and Unity of Whidbey.
