Longtime Whidbey Island couple celebrates 65th anniversary

Jim Tasche was born in Redland, San Diego, moved to Whidbey Island in 1946 and later graduated from Langley High School in 1947.

Gert was born and raised at her family home on the beach in Mutiny Bay. She graduated from Langley High School in 1948 and worked for a telephone company in Seattle for five years.

The couple moved to Seattle following their marriage, where Jim worked at Burlington Northern. Jim retired from Burlington Northern in 1992 after 42 years with the railroad company.

The couple lived in Edmonds for eight years before building a home on Columbia Beach Drive, and eventually moved to the Useless Bay Colony. Since retiring, the couple enjoys golfing, spending time at their home in Yuma, Ariz., and being with family and friends.

Jim and Gert have three children: Pam Mock (Jim) of Freeland, Bob Tasche (Vicki) of Burien, and Linda Alexander (Scott) of Freeland.  Their grandchildren are Alicia Hicks (Ben), Amy Goodman (Mike), Taylor and Connor Mock, Dusty (Meg) and Brett Tasche (Stephanie), Kyle Sanders, Michael Larner, Brandon & Brittany Richards, Nick (Tesela), Russell (Jessica), and Taylor Alexander. Their nine great grandchildren are Carson, Colin, Maci, Stella, Logan, Alice, Landon, Caleb and Ashlynn.
