Signs will soon be ordered for the “Langley Loop,” the new sign project that will guide motorists to the Village by the Sea from Bayview through downtown Langley and out Langley Road to Ken’s Korner and Highway 525.

Langley Public Works Director Challis Stringer said she has heard the county has received approval from the state Department of Transportation to order the signs, and the signs should be received about three weeks after the order goes in.

The Langley Sign Initiative also includes efforts to install other new signs and modify existing ones on county roads and Highway 525 to better direct travelers to attractions in Langley, such as the Island County Fairgrounds and the marina, and other South End destinations. A monument sign that highlights Langley is also planned on Highway 525 near Ken’s Korner.

The sign project is expected to cost roughly $40,000.

Those working on the project had hoped to start installing the signs by mid-May.

Stringer said once the city has its Langley Loop signs, workers in other city departments will be cross-trained on installing the signs so they will all be placed immediately.
