An Oak Harbor man is accused of burglarizing a Freeland business and stealing a drone and other equipment in July, according to court documents.
Louis S. Scarpino, 36, pleaded not guilty in Island County Superior Court Sept. 5 to burglary in the second degree and theft in the second degree. A judge set his bail at $25,000.
Scarpino was also charged earlier this year for allegedly stealing a purple minivan with a dog inside, an electric bike and shoes in Oak Harbor, court documents state.
Court documents identify Scarpino as both an Oak Harbor resident and a homeless person.
In the more recent case, the owner of a Freeland audio/video store reported on July 6 that a burglary had occurred overnight. More than $3,000 worth of equipment was taken.
The man reviewed video that showed Scarpino walking through multiple rooms, smoking a cigarette while taking items, according to a report by a deputy with the Island County Sheriff’s Office. The deputy collected cigarette butts from the scene and a print from a door knob. The evidence was sent to the crime lab.
Scarpino’s criminal history includes intimidating a judge, theft of a car, four burglaries, vehicle prowls, at least six counts of theft and communicating with a minor for immoral purposes.
