“A 35-year-old Langley man may face over 12 years in prison if found guilty of shaking his infant daughter hard enough to cause brain damage, according to the Island County Sheriff’s Department.Brian Webb recently pleaded not guilty to two counts of first-degree assault of a child in Island County Superior Court.On Aug. 6, the baby’s mother called 911 for help after the 4-month-old became unresponsive while the couple was waiting for a ferry.Webb freely admitted to his wife, a firefighter and a deputy who responded to the scene that he had shaken the baby the night before, according to a report written by Island County Detective Sue Quandt.Webb told the firefighter that he had been angry the night before and had shaken the baby until it stopped making noise, Quandt wrote.The baby’s mother told investigators that Webb also admitted he had shaken the baby once previously, the report states.The infant was transported by helicopter from the Clinton ferry dock to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle, where she underwent emergency neurosurgery. The doctors found brain injuries consistent with Shaken Baby Syndrome, as well as evidence of an older brain injury, according to Quandt. After the surgery, the infant was transferred to the Children’s Hospital. She was discharged Aug. 24.Quandt wrote that the baby will need significant follow-up exams by physicians to determine if she will have impaired development skills or vision problems.Webb’s trial, which was originally set for March 6, was recently postponed after he waived his rights to a speedy trial. “
