Input gathered at a series of community meetings across Whidbey Island this month will eventually end up on the desk of Gov. Jay Inslee.
Organized by Island County Veterans Services and local leaders, the forums aim to collect feedback from veterans, prior service members and their families about the status of veterans in Island County. Island County has the highest per capita number of veterans in the state, the organization said in a recent news release.
“These community forums are your opportunity to be counted and heard,” the news release said.
The meeting schedule is as follows:
– 5-7 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Grigware Hall, in Freeland.
– 9-11:30 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 13, at the Langley Methodist Church in Langley.
– 4-6 p.m. Monday Feb. 15, at the Camano Island Library at Jerry’s Corner.
Input from the meetings will be summarized and presented to the representatives of the governor’s Veterans Affairs Advisory Committee, which will host a town hall later this month. It’s set for 10 a.m. to noon Thursday, Feb. 18, at the VFW on Goldie Road in Oak Harbor.
For those who cannot attend the earlier meetings, input can be submitted by telephone to Island County Veterans Services at 360-632-7328.
