The South Whidbey School District board of directors gave Superintendent Jo Moccia the green light to make reductions in staff for the 2016-17 fiscal year at its regular monthly meeting on March 23. Due to declining enrollment in the district, which allocates fewer monies from the state, Wednesday’s action was the legal step required to carry out staff cuts.

Moccia said the action is done annually and gives the superintendent the authority to make budget decisions on behalf of the board.
