Memorial Day events are planned throughout the South End on Monday, May 31.
In Clinton, the annual Memorial Day service at Clinton Cemetery will be at 11 a.m. behind St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, 6309 Wilson Place.
Rep. Norma Smith will be featured speaker. Daughters of the American Revolution and the Langley Christian & Missionary Alliance Church choir will participate in the ceremony, and the flag will be raised by members of Boy Scout Troop 57. For information, call 341-6311.
In Bayview, the annual wreath-laying ceremony at Bayview Cemetery by members of South Whidbey American Legion Post 141 also will be at 11 a.m. The cemetery is just south of Highway 525 at Bayview and Howard roads.
Keynote speaker will be Island County Sheriff Mark Brown, a Marine Corps color guard will participate and post chaplain Darrell Wenzek will offer a prayer.
Ladies Auxiliary Poppy Girl Nicole Leggett, 11, of Langley, will lay the wreath, assisted by 2009 Poppy Girl Krista Drechsel.
A potluck will be held at the nearby post following the event.
In Langley, the Whidbey Island Veteran’s Resource Center will have its second annual Memorial Day Tribute at 1:30 p.m. in the Langley Middle School auditorium, 723 Camano Ave.
The free nonpartisan tribute to veterans and their families will feature readings, music, dance, discussion and snacks.
