Langley Middle School administrators will be applying for membership in the Cascade League.

Tim Gordon, assistant principal at LMS, told the South Whidbey Board of Education March 24 that the school has verbal confirmation of its acceptance into the league.

“I expect everything to go smoothly,” Gordon said.

The decision for the move was made following input from the community and students those most affected by the decision, Gordon said.

The move to the Cascade League will complete the district’s move to the 2A level.

“Many of the athletes we will compete against in this league will also be their competitors at the the high school level,” Gordon said.

In other business, the board will seek bids for a new roof for the South Whidbey Primary School. Board directors also approved the purchase of two new buses.

The cost of the 78-passenger buses is $169,000. According to district transportation supervisor Margaret Evans, the buses will replace to older ones. Buses are paid for out of the district’s transportation fund which can be used for vehicles only.
