South Whidbey Fire/EMS commissioners approved last week to fund asbestos removal and repairs to a pair of fire stations.
The Maxwelton and Bayview stations are due to have the work done in the coming months, thanks to the transfer of funds from the fire protection district’s reserve account to the stations’ budgets. The subject of adding a bathroom to the Langley fire station was delayed until the September meeting.
A safety issue was also reported for the Freeland station’s tender, a type of fire response vehicle. The issue was fixed, but other tenders from the same manufacturer will be inspected and, if necessary, repaired.
After eight months of rebranding the fire district to its new moniker, South Whidbey Fire/EMS, the agency approved its letter to change its name with the Internal Revenue Service.
Marc Swenson was presented his badge as a South Whidbey Fire/EMS firefighter at the meeting.
South Whidbey Fire/EMS commissioners meet the second Thursday of each month at the Freeland station, located at 5535 Cameron Road.
