Several new fundraising events are being organized to help Clinton resident Cliff Hagglund.
Hagglund, who suffered a massive heart attack on Sept. 3, has no health insurance, so family, friends, co-workers and neighbors have rallied to help with his impending medical bills.
The next benefit is tonight in Freeland.
“Neighbors Night” is 8:30 to 11:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 16 at China City at 1804 Scott Road. Angela Vosburg invites everyone to dance the night away at the restaurant’s bar, which will donate a percentage of its sales to the Cliff Hagglund Recovery Fund at Whidbey Island Bank.
A garage sale and Kimo’s Barbecue will take place from 9 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Sept. 17 on the front lawn of China City.
Donations for the sale will be accepted at 8 a.m. that morning. The morning will also include a car wash (weather permitting), a sale of cupcakes and maple bars with bacon, and a raffle sponsored by the Color Box Hair Salon. The raffle winner will receive free haircuts for one year.
On Thursday, Sept. 22 hairdressers at several local salons will donate a percentage of their income and tips to Hagglund’s fund; make a hair appointment or just stop by to donate. The salons include La Salon Bella in Bayview, 321-6030; Studio A in Freeland, 331-4949; Mane Stream Salon in Freeland, 579-1415; Langley Salon & Spa, 221-8090; Carol’s Barbershop in Freeland, 331-1383; Rumours Salon in Clinton, 341-2126; and Shavawn’s, 206-396-2350.
China City will also host the “Mrs. South Whidbey Contest” from 8 to 11 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24 at the restaurant in Freeland.
The fashion show with men in drag will feature gentlemen carrying purses and doing their very best to impress the crowd with their fashion sense. Whoever ends up with the fattest purse will be crowned “Whidbey’s Next Top Model.” An all-star cast has been invited to participate in this beauty contest. The evening will include a small live auction. Reservations are suggested at 331-8899.
Donations can be made out to the Cliff Hagglund Recovery Fund and dropped off at participating salons or at Whidbey Island Bank.
