A motorcyclist who was killed in a collision on North Whidbey on Oct. 13 has been identified.

The Island County Coroner’s Office reported that Mark Crandall, a 58-year-old Oak Harbor resident, was pronounced dead at WhidbeyHealth Medical Center. His name was initially withheld pending notification of his family.

Crandall was a lifelong Oak Harbor resident and has a brother in the area, according to the coroner.

The Washington State Patrol reported that Crandall was northbound on a Honda motorcycle on Monkey Hill Road. Eleazar Ngiralmau, a 28-year-old Oak Harbor resident, was driving a Ford Transit van south on Monkey Hill Road.

The van turned left toward Azalea Road and was struck by Crandall’s motorcycle, the State Patrol reported. The motorcycle was propelled into the southbound lane and was struck by an oncoming Mazda 6 car.

The accident was reported at 3 p.m.

The State Patrol reported that Crandall was wearing a non-USDOT-compliant helmet. He was transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The report states that the cause of the accident was failure to yield right of way. Drugs and alcohol were not factors in the crash.

Ngiralmau was not injured in the collision. The driver of the Mazda car and her infant passenger were not also injured.
