Mukilteo terminal work completed ahead of schedule

Ferry sailings on the Clinton-Mukilteo route this weekend won't be diverted to Edmonds, Washington State Ferries announced today.

Ferry sailings on the Clinton-Mukilteo route this weekend won’t be diverted to Edmonds, Washington State Ferries announced today.

The Mukilteo terminal was shut down this past weekend, and Friday through Sunday the weekend prior, for major repair work. Transportation officials said today the work — replacing the mechanical and electrical systems that control the transfer span and apron that link the vessel and the dock — was finished ahead of schedule.

More work is planned at the terminal in the evenings over the next month, but the renovations will not disrupt service, officials said.

During the repair work, sailings from Clinton were routed to Edmonds, which nearly doubled the time of the ferry crossing. The length of the passage also resulted in fewer sailings between Whidbey Island and the mainland.

“I greatly appreciate the patience and flexibility of our Whidbey Island and Mukilteo customers,” said David Moseley, assistant secretary for Washington State Ferries. “The work completed was vital to ensure the continued safe operation of the terminal.”
